Don’t we all wish we could take our AC unit with us when we go camping? Sometimes it’s hard to escape the heat and still have a fun time. Here are a few fun ideas to help beat the heat and still have a memorable camping experience:
First you will want to make sure when you find your camping spot that there is plenty of shade. You will want to pitch your tent or position your trailer in the shady spots so that you can try to cut back on how hot your tent will get during the day. Having a hot tent is not fun and you won’t want to hang out in it if the inside temperature is hotter than the outside air. Open up all your windows to let a breeze filter thru your tent to help keep the temperature down.
Once we have set up your RV and have made it possible to hang out in it during the day, there are lots of activities that you can do inside! Games are always a fun activity to play and being able to play inside and avoid mosquitos or other insects is always a bonus. Card games are perfect for camping. Cards are easy to pack and can be slipped into backpacks for easy access. Bring a deck of normal cards—there are limitless games to play with it. Other card games that are great for camping are Uno, Phase 10, Fluxx, Rook and Old Maid. Pack the cards in plastic freezer bags so you don’t lose any or get them wet. Board games can also be fun to play while camping, especially if you have a picnic table or other place to play. Keep in mind that pieces are easily lost in the outdoors. Games like charades and I Spy are ideal because you don’t have to bring anything with you to play them. Bring paper and a pencil. Then you can play Hangman, Tic-Tac-Toe, and Dots.
If you want to have fun and adventure outside of your RV, scheduling activities for the cooler part of the day is a smart way to still have adventures and not overheat during the hot parts of the day. Scheduling non water activities during the early morning or late evening is a smart choice.
Part of the joy of camping is being close to nature. Explore the great outdoors with these activities. Be sure to respect the area where you are: Don’t disturb or damage the wildlife!
* Animal watching
* Collecting fireflies in a jar
* Bug collecting
* Nature gathering (pine cones, rocks, flowers, etc.)
* Leaf collecting
* Searching for wild berries, nuts, and other edible plants
* Having a scavenger hunt
* Going on a photo safari, taking pictures of the flora and fauna you find
*Looking for evidence of Big Foot (or other creatures)
* Picking berries
* Collecting firewood or kindling
* Finding the perfect walking stick
If your campsite is close to water you have a whole other slew of activities that you can do during the hot hours of the day. Boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming can be done during most hours of the day and will definitely help you beat the heat.
Even if you aren’t camping near water, you can still play with water. Try these fun suggestions that are great for cooling off on hot days:
* Have a water balloon fight
* Attack each other with squirt guns
* If you are at a site that has utilities, bring an inflatable wading pool and fill it with water
* Line a truck bed with a tarp and fill it with water for a makeshift pool
These are all great ways to stay cool during the hot days.
As you can see the possibilities are endless to have fun and stay cool while camping.
